Day 305 – The Nooks and Crannies that Make Up Me
Zencast 302 – The Present Moment
I received this inspiring post in my inbox from Lindsey today. It’s not the sort of thing I usually blog about, but thought it would be an interesting way of sharing a little more about myself with you all as I count down towards the end of this experiment. (Only 60 days left!)
- The only national anthem I know all the words to is the Malawian National Anthem. I wish I knew it in Chichewa, but we were not allowed to speak Chewa for several years at school so rarely sang it in anything but English.
- Since doing Color Me Beautiful with my mom, aunt and grandmother I love color. My living room is teal, my bedroom is royal purple, my kitchen is sky blue and my bathroom is about to get a pumpkin orange make-over. I couldn’t live without color.
- Since childhood I have always been more interested in Hinduism than any other religion. It was only when I took a World Religions class and discovered Gil Fronsdal’s Zencast podcast that I realized I had been a closet Buddhist the whole time.
- I love cats. Just not in this way.
- I have danced the Highland Fling in front of the British High Commissioner to Malawi.
- I have sung, acted and performed the flute in front of 100+ people (thankfully not all at the same time).
- I won the public speaking competition at my high school speaking about the murder of James Bulger.
- I drove alone from Savannah, GA to New York City only to crash the rental car while taking it back to the airport at 4am. I flipped another car that flew into a concrete divider. On top of that, a club had just closed and there were about 50 people standing on the sidewalk gasping and pointing. That was one of the worst days of my life. Thankfully no one died and I haven’t crashed a car since. Tough way to start off in the city though.
- I am an organ donor. I have even pledged my corneas.
- The first career I remember wanting to have was that of an actor (decided around the age of 11/12). I gave up that dream when I was 16 when an outside examiner at my high school refused to watch me perform my sketch during our practical exams without giving any reason why. When we got our final results, I had dropped an entire grade in drama and ended up dropping my dream of being in front of the camera forever. Luckily, it turned out that wasn’t really my dream.
- I thought I loved chocolate and literally was addicted. When I stopped eating dairy after finding out I was intolerant I realized it was the intolerance that was addicted to chocolate, not me. I now no longer crave or even like chocolate when I eat it.
- I love listening and singing to Justin Bieber‘s album called My World 2.0. I also have a pink Justin Bieber t-shirt (thanks to my brother and sister-in-law). He’s my guilty pleasure. Does that make me creepy?
Those are just some of the nooks and crannies of my life that make up me. I hope they have given you a bit more insight into the person I am, rather than simply the Buddhist blogger I appear to be.
If you would be interested, please email me or post some of the nooks and crannies that make up you. It’s good to share.
Namaste
